City of Longmont Recognizes District
On May 10,
2011 the City of Longmont City Council, in recognition of the St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District’s 40th Anniversary, presented President Dennis Yanchunas and Executive Director Sean Cronin with a proclamation commemorating the District.
The City of Longmont and the District have a strong working relationship and as stated by President Yanchunas to the City Council, “It is our relationships that we value most,” and “we remain committed to strengthen our existing relationships” to achieve our most important goal, the preservation of our native water resources.
Williams Receives Friends of the South Platte Award
Former Executive Director Les Williams received the 2010 Friends of the South Platte Award. This award was initiated in 2004 to recognize individuals and organizations who, through diligence and dedication, have made exceptional contributions in the South Platte River Basin.
Les retired from St. Vrain & Left Hand Water Conservancy District in 2009, where he served as the Executive Director sin
ce 1986. Les was presented the award in October at the 21st Annual South Platte Forum and was introduced by District President Dennis Yanchunas in front of many water industry professionals and experts, where Dennis said “knowledge, perseverance, patience, and vision are the hallmarks of Les’s water career”. None speak of his patience as much as the decade spent on the negotiations that preserved the river above Ralph Price Reservoir, and in obtaining a court approved augmentation plan for the District.
Les continues to be involved in water related activities, including continued service on the Northern Water Board of Directors. As was stated by Dennis in the introduction “The South Platte basin would be hard pressed to find a better, harder working, more faithful friend than Les Williams.”
Thanks to Les for all his dedication and hard work for the St. Vrain and Left Hand basins.
